Black Panther: National Champion 2023

Marusa & Pan - National Champion 2023
After Pan and I had earned the team champions title on Saturday we completed the collection with the individual title yesterday. 🥳 Thank you Neil Ellis for cool courses, we were beyond happy and honoured to have you in Slovenia!
We started the individual competition with a jumping run in the morning where Pan missed the weave entry and gave me the feeling that he really didn’t see the poles camouflaged somehow with the colours of the fence behind it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ That made me worried, but I knew that worrying about the past doesn’t bring the results in the future, so I just focused on my solutions for the next run – pretty challenging agility course that we nailed and earned our finals ticket. 🔥 Having a whole cheering team helped a little too. 😁

The finals course wasn’t a hard one handling wise, but the opening sequence demanded lots of controlling and right after that everything was super fast again. 😅 It was late, dogs and handlers were tired after competing two days on the sand… That resulted in an unusually high rate of stupid mistakes and eliminations. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also Pan dropped a bar and fell on the course but we fought till the end and made it. 🦾🦾
It’s a bitter sweet feeling. 🖤 He is still going strong, moving like a panther should move and easily competes with youngsters. But, he is also 9 years old, has a bit of arthritis in few toes and that takes a lot of effort to control it. Besides lots of physio, it also means very limited trainings – he has had close to zero contacts and weaves practice in the last couple of years, has had multiple 2 months breaks and has rarely trained more than once a week during periods of training. We really had to do it smart not hard to get some results. That is the sweet part as I simply love preparing the dogs (and myself!) for competitions, I love the planning, the thrill, the adrenaline, the satisfaction after success and motivation after failure. The teamwork! 🖤And here comes the bitter part. I am going to miss our teamwork terribly. But, this is a sport and I think it’s fair to say farewell to bigger competitions in style.
The era of Black Panther has officially ended and now it’s time to put the extra energy in my Eye of the Tiger and of course the little warrior Veni who has had an unfortunate season agility wise. I hope to somehow survive a whole season without competing with a border collie and not feeling too sorry for myself for that reason. 😅
Shoutout to the best Dogs4motion team who has supported us in all possible ways, professionally and as friends. Jana and Primoz 🙏🙏🙏 Thanks to Beata as well and to all our friends and family who believed in us. 💜
Of course, that doesn’t mean Pan is becoming a couch potato overnight. He will still train and I will do my best to keep him in shape for as long as possible. We are just going to take it a bit more leisurely. 🙃
I still haven’t gotten the time to write about our AWC that totally exceeded my expectations… I promise to do it asap!
